DIR: Voting for the by-elections in PK-95 constituency concluded in the Lower Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

According to unofficial results of six polling stations, Jamaat-e-Islami’s candidate Aizaz-ul-Mulk is leading with 1628 votes, followed by 569 votes of Awami National Party’s Haji Bahadur.

Vote count is underway in the constituency where polling held from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

A large number of male voters turned out to cast their votes for the KP assembly seat vacated by JI chief Siraj-ul-Haq due to his election as Senator.

Total registered voters in the constituency are 140,743. Out of the 85 polling stations in the constituency, 33 were declared sensitive. Strict security measures were put in place in the district for the polling process.

JI chief Siraj-ul-Haq appealed female voters to exercise their right to vote in the election.

Women’s turnout is usually weak in the most conservative, rural parts of Pakistan, particularly within the tribal belt, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces.
