ISLAMABAD: Former President and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari has expressed grave concern over reports that government is withdrawing subsidy on wheat supplied to Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) declaring that his party will resist any such move.
Withdrawal of wheat subsidy from GB is a thoughtless and callous decision that will not only compound the miseries of the poor people but also deepen their sense of hurt, the former President said in a statement today.
Spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the former President called upon the government to immediately reverse the decision.
“It is a cruel joke with the people to feign the construction of Gilgit-Skardu road which the government had no intention to build,” Zardari said.
Never before a people have been so brazenly led up a false garden path on the eve of elections, the former President said.
“Such stunts will only strengthen the perception that worse than deprived the people of GB are actually being cheated”.
