Annual Ghilaf-e-Kaaba changing ceremony held today

MAKKAH: The annual ceremony of changing the Ghilaf-e-Kaaba was held this morning.

The covering cloth of the Kaaba, known as Kiswa, is changed on 9th Zilhaj every year after Fajr prayer on the day of Arafat.

The new cover has been prepared with estimated 150kg pure gold and 670kg silk fibre. It is fourteen metre long and ninety-five centimetres wide.

It has been prepared at a cost of two hundred and twenty million Saudi Riyyals.

The cover, inscribed with verses of the Holy Quran, is prepared by hundreds of weaving experts and costs millions of Saudi riyals.

The old Ghilaf e Kaaba would be divided into pieces and would be gifted to the foreign dignitaries.
