Eid-ul-Azha being celebrated today

KARACHI: The nation is celebrating Eid-ul-Azha with great religious fervour and enthusiasm on Friday to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS).


The day dawned with special prayers in mosques for peace, progress and well-being of the Ummah and Pakistan.

Eid congregations were held at mosques, Imambargahs, Eidgahs, and open places in cities, towns and villages across the country.

In the federal capital, the main Eid congregation was held at the Faisal Mosque. After offering Eid prayers, the faithful will sacrifice animals.

In Karachi, President Mamnoon Hussain offered Eid prayers at the State Guest House.

The federal and provincial governments have chalked out elaborate security plans.

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police have devised a comprehensive security plan to guard places of worship and for effective patrolling in various parts of the city during the Eid holidays. More than 3,500 policemen will perform security duties at 824 places, including 796 mosques, 21 Imambargahs and seven open places.

The bomb disposal squad will conduct checking of various areas, and parking will not be allowed near places of worship or congregations.
