LAHORE: Heavy rain lashed different towns and cities of the Punjab including Lahore, while hailstorm disrupted life in upper parts of the country on Wednesday. In Punjab, at least seven people suffered injuries in rain-linked accidents.
Rain in Lahore has been particularly heavy since morning on Wednesday.
Storm clouds gathered above the city during the wee hours of the day and since then massive rain has been reported across Lahore.
At least 180 feeders tripped in the city after the rain, while flights have either been cancelled or delayed at the Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore as more rains are expected to come in the next few hours.
According to Rescue 1122, at least four people were injured in Thokar Niaz Beg area of Lahore after the roof of their house collapsed. Wall of an under constructed building fell in the area of Ferozepur Road injuring two people while a rain-related incident injured one person in Mandi Bahauddin.
Heavy to very heavy rain was reported in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Sheikhupura in the Punjab after which lowland areas completely submerged under rain water.
Meanwhile, closed drains and streams have been flooded in Chitral due to heavy rainfall and hailstorm.
The latest spell of monsoon rain has brought the scorching temperatures down in the Punjab and upper parts of the upcountry.
The Met office has already forecasted relatively heavy rains during this year’s monsoon (a period of heavy rain in summer in South Asia) in the country.
