Olive, Fig sapling plantation yields encouraging results

The results of about six thousand olive and one thousand fig saplings planted on experimental basis in two squares of land in Cholistan desert have been encouraging.

This was stated by the Regional director of the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources, Bahawalpur Engineer Abdul Munaf Sipraw while talking to our Radio Pakistan Bahawalpur Correspondent Sajjad Parvez.

He said that the saplings’ mortality rate of ten to twenty per cent has been recorded.

He expressed the hope that the cultivation experiment of olive and fig would prove successful after which the project could be expanded.
