KARACHI: Central Ruet-e-Hilal (moon-sighting) Committee will meet today in Karachi to sight moon of the holy month of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.
Chairman of the main moon-sighting body, Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman will preside over the meeting today (Wednesday) at Meteorological Complex.
According to Meteorological Department, the moon is likely to be sighted today.
Meantime, Sindh government announced public holiday on the first of Muharram to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Umar Farooq (R.A.).
It should be mentioned here that the religious scholars demanded holiday on the martyrdom day of the second caliph.
According to Chief Minister House, Qaim Ali Shah approved the public holiday for Karachi alone.
