US launches experimental zika vaccine clinical trails

The US government has begun the first clinical trial of an experimental Zika vaccine.

The director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Anthony Fauci made the announcement that an investigational DNA vaccine intended to prevent Zika virus infection is being tested.

Anthony Fauci says the experimental vaccine has shown a good response in animal models.

He said we also get a good immune response in the first trials in human volunteers.

He said plans are under way to begin the second round of clinical trials by January next year.
