Afridi backs Amir, urges Hafeez, Azhar to move on

KARACHI: Pakistan’s flamboyant all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi has welcomed Muhammad Amir’s return to international cricket, asking his colleagues to “move on” and support the paceman.

In a series of tweets on Friday, the star all-rounder said although “our image was tarnished everywhere,” Amir spoke truth in courts and media unlike other tainted players.

Muhammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali have strongly opposed Amir’s return to Pakistani squad on the grounds that the cricketers convicted in spot-fixing scandal tarnished Pakistan’s image.

Afridi, however, is of the view that Muhammad Amir deserves the chance as he confessed to his “mistake” and supported Pakistani team, which he said “suffered a lot due to spot-fixing scandal.

The T20 captain said Amir should have the backing of the team as he admitted his mistakes. He also regretted that new players have been unable to grab the chance when the opportunities were given to them.

“We have selected the best possible team for New Zealand tour. This squad is the best available talent in Pakistan,” he tweeted.
