MOSCOW: Belarusian hammer thrower Pavel Krivitsky, the fourth-place finisher at last year’s European championships, has been banned for four years for doping.
The Belarusian National Anti-Doping Agency says Krivitsky tested positive for a growth hormone and that the agency handed him a four-year ban on Sept. 3 that was backdated to June 22.
Krivitsky was the European under-23 champion in 2005 and came fifth at the 2011 world championships.
Belarus is a major power in athletics’ throwing events but its top athletes have regularly been caught doping.
In 2012, Belarusian shot putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk was stripped of her Olympic gold medal after testing positive for a banned steroid.
