MELBOURNE: Defending champion Novak Djokovic won for the 37th time in 38 matches at the Australian Open, beating Kei Nishikori 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 to set up a semifinal against Roger Federer.

After making 100 unforced errors in his five-set win over Gilles Simon in the fourth round, Djokovic was much less error-prone on Tuesday night at Rod Laver Arena.

He made just 27 unforced errors in the 2 hour, 7 minute match and clinched it on his third match point with a backhand cross-court winner.

Djokovic won three tournaments in a row from 2011 to 2013 and lost in the quarterfinals in 2014 before winning the Australian title for the fifth time last year.

One of Nishikori’s only two wins against Djokovic came in the 2014 U.S. Open semifinals.
