KOLKATA: Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by a margin of 15 runs in the warm-up match played between the two on Monday at the Eden Gardens cricket stadium.
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat.
Pakistani openers Sharjeel Khan and Ahmed Shahzad made 23 and 18 runs apiece while star batsman and former captain of team Mohammad Hafeez smashed 70 runs.
Wicket keeper Sarfraz Ahmed only hit 17 runs and Umar Akmal scored 19 runs.
On the other hand, captain Shahid Afridi gone for a duck.
Talking about Sri Lankan side, SMSM Senanayake, HMRKB Herath and PVD Chameera took one, one wicket each whereas NLTC Perera snatched two wickets.
When it came to bowling, Imad Wasim stunned everyone as he was able to pick 4 crucial wickets giving away 25 runs.
Skipper Afridi was equally disappointing with the bowl as the Lankan batsmen thrashed him all over the ground; he conceded 40 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
Thirimanne and Chandimal scored 45 and 30 runs respectively as the Lankan lions were able to score 142/9 within their 20 overs.
Mohammad Irfan also picked 2 wickets.
Pakistan’s performance in recently held Asia Cup was not satisfactory but the players have come back with a bang by hitting a good target.
