Pakistan to participate in Bowling World Cup

ISLAMABAD: A two-member Pakistan bowling squad will participate in the 51st Annual QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup to be held in the Unites States from November 13 to 19.

A two-member Pakistan bowling squad along with one official will depart from Islamabad for the US, next week to feature in the event.

“This is one of the largest tournaments in terms of number of participating nations. Our best bowlers will participate in it” Secretary Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation Ijaz-ur-Rehman told APP.

Ijaz-ur-Rehman, who is also among Pakistan’s top ranked bowlers, would chip in men’s event, while Janet Sheikh will represent the country in female contests. Hussain Chatta will accompany them as team manager.

The event, formerly known as the International Masters and AMF Bowling World Cup would be held at 56-Lane Bowling Center in Sam’s Town, Las Vegas from November 13.

“This is an annual tenpin bowling event. But we are participating in it only for the second time. Our first participation in the event was in 2009 when we finished 52nd among 120 countries,” Ijaz said.

The 2015 QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup international finals will comprise a series of three stages of eliminations before the semifinal and final matches; qualifying round, intermediate round and Top 8 Bowlers.

Each nation chooses one male and one female bowler to represent the country in the tournament.

Pakistan arranged qualifying tournaments, and winners of the both male and female categories were selected for the world cup.

In 2011, the Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation took a big step when it succeeded in getting itself affiliated permanently with the World Bowling Association, Asian bowling federation and Commonwealth bowling Federation.

The affiliations helped the PTBF get facilitation, coaches and opportunities to send its players to the international tournaments that promoted the game in the country.
