SHARJAH: Pakistan has set 285 runs target to win for West Indies in a first One Day International (ODI) match being played here at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

West Indian captain Jason Holder won the toss and opted to bowl first against Pakistan.

The series is an important one for the ninth-ranked Pakistan, who will be hoping to jump to the eighth place and into contention for the 2019 World Cup with a 3-0 win in the 50-over format.

Meanwhile, the short-on-confidence West Indies, will be looking to avoid a whitewash to stay put on their number eight position.

The series is also important for Pakistan ODI captain Azhar Ali, who is under extreme pressure after a 4-1 humiliation by England in the five-match ODI series.

There were reports that Azhar will be sacked or will be forced to resign, however, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) gave the 31-year-old another chance to turn things around in the 50-over format.

The visitors will be hoping that luck will kick in to settle things for them after coach Phil Simmons was removed just days before the tour began.

We are live with all the updates of what’s going to be a clash between two teams who are battling to cement their hold on the final spot for automatic qualification in the 2019 ICC World Cup.
