Sri Lanka win toss, bat first against Pakistan in 5th ODI

HAMBANTOTA: Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat on what Angelo Mathews felt would be a decent batting surface. Azhar Ali said he would have batted first also, but expected some assistance for the seamers in the early overs.

The hosts made three changes to their attack, the most significant of which was the omission of Lasith Malinga, who has not been effective in this series. Nuwan Pradeep was ruled out through injury and left-arm spinning allrounder Sachith Pathirana was also left out.

In their stead, rookie seamer Lahiru Gamage came into the side, while Thisara Perera also returned to the XI. Offspinner Sachithra Senanayake was picked for his first match of the series as well.

Pakistan were unchanged.

The weather is expected to remain fine for the duration of the match, but a strong breeze was blowing across the venue during the toss.
