PALLEKELE: Pakistan, set a victory target of 377 runs, were 230-2 in their second innings at stumps on the fourth day of the series-deciding third test on Monday.
Shan Masood was unbeaten on 114 and Younis Khan was on 101, the pair having put on 217 for the third wicket after Pakistan were reduced to 13-2.
Pakistan now need 147 runs to win the match and the series with eight wickets in hand.
Younus Khan is the first Test batsman in history to score five centuries in the fourth innings.
No visiting team has scored more than 300 runs in the fourth innings to win a test on Sri Lankan soil.
