BEIJING: China has called for all sides to show restraint over North Korea’s announcement to launch a rocket in defiance of UN sanctions.

China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lu Kang during weekly briefing in Beijing on Wednesday said maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula is the shared responsibility and common interest of all parties.

Meanwhile, Japan put its military on alert today to shoot down any North Korean rocket that threatens it.

South Korea on the other hand warned the North Korea to pay a “severe price” if it goes ahead with a satellite launch.
