Islamic State seizes control of airport in Libya’s Sirte

The Islamic State group (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) has seized control of the airport in the city of Sirte, AFP reported.

The seizure came after forces of a Tripoli-based Libyan government, not recognized by the international community, had withdrawn.

They pulled out late on Thursday, according to a spokesman. IS confirmed it had captured the airport, which is also a military base, in a message posted on Twitter.
