ALIGARH: A Kashmiri student has been expelled from India’s Aligarh Muslim University over an ‘objectionable’ Facebook post on the Uri attack.

Mudassar Yusuf was expelled from the university on Monday after Vice-Chancellor Zameeruddin Shah “personally” probed the matter, a spokesperson for the varsity claimed.

The post, which has been removed from the social networking website read, “17 Indian army men have been killed by those who have been made terrorists by the (Indian) army itself,” according to an Indian newspaper.

Yusuf, who was pursuing a master’s in chemistry, said he had put up the post after getting “carried away”. The Kashmiri student had later apologised to Shah.

Claiming that the vice chancellor had taken serious notice of the issue, the spokesperson said, “Shah said that there is no scope whatsoever at AMU for tolerating any incident which smacks of anti-national sentiments”. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha MP from Aligarh Satish Kumar Gautam had also written to Shah demanding action against Yusuf.
