Pakistani origin Sadiq Khan becomes Labor Party’s candidate for London mayor

LONDON: Pakistani origin Sadiq Khan has won the poll to become Labour Party’s candidate for the London mayoral election to be held next year.


According to British media reports, Mr Khan, whose parents belong to Karachi, begged more than 48,000 votes, defeating Tessa Jowell in the final round of poll.

Announcement of Sadiq Khan’s candidacy was made at a ceremony held at Royal Festival on Friday.

Mr Khan, a resident of Tooting, had also been a member of the UK parliament.
