MOSCOW: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday cancelled a visit to Turkey for talks with his counterpart after Ankara shot down a Russian jet.

“The decision has been taken to cancel the meeting that was planned for tomorrow in Istanbul between the foreign ministers of Russia and Turkey,” Lavrov said in televised comments.

Lavrov, speaking to reporters in the southern Russian city of Sochi, advised Russians not to visit Turkey and said the threat of terrorism there was the no less than in Egypt, where a bomb attack brought down a Russian passenger plane last month.
