WASHINGTON: The United States and Japan have completed the removal of all highly enriched uranium and separated plutonium fuels from Japan’s fast critical assembly research project, the countries said on Friday.

The transfer “furthers our mutual goal of minimizing stocks of (highly enriched uranium) HEU and separated plutonium worldwide, which will help prevent unauthorized actors, criminals, or terrorists from acquiring such materials,” the United States and Japan said in a joint statement released during the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington.
