Federal Government on Sunday increased the petrol price by Rs9.42 per litre upon proposal of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra).
The Ministry of Finance, after consulting with the Prime Minister, finalised the rates, petrol now priced at Rs108.31 per litre.
The light diesel and kerosene oil prices are now priced Rs86.94 per litre and Rs96.77 per litre.
After an increase of Rs4.89 per litre, diesel is now priced Rs122.32 per litre.
The Federal Board of Revenue has imposed a higher GST (sales tax) on petrol, with a hike of 12 percent. The GST on high-speed and light-diesel oil now set 17 percent, while the tax on kerosene oil has been increased from 8 to 17 percent.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan, commenting on the fuel price hike, said, “the government has not dropped the petrol bomb intentionally.”
She added, “fuel prices have gone up all over the world. The burden of the increased prices would have to be borne by the government and public together.”
