KARACHI: On Wednesday, veteran journalist Idrees Bakhtiar passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest in Karachi.
Bakhtiar, 74, was briefly admitted in a Karachi hospital after suffering the cardiac arrest.
The renowned journalist has served as head of the Editorial Committee of Geo News and had previously been affiliated with the BBC and Herald among several other publications.
The funeral prayers of Karachi Press Club’s prestigious member will be offered at Waseem Bagh in Gulshan Iqbal, Karachi after Fajr prayers and he will be laid to rest tomorrow.
“What a sad departure. My dear friend whom I had known for decades, the nice courteous journalist Idrees Bakhtiar has passed away إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ”, tweeted President Arif Alvi.
“May his soul rest in peace and Allah grant his family the strength to bear this loss,” the president added.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb expressed grief over the demise of Bakhtiar.
She said, “Idrees Bakhtiar was a credible reference to journalism in Pakistan. He earned a great name in national and international media through his remarkable services,” adding that her party pays tribute to the late journalist for his exceptional journalistic services.
