PML-N has rejected the Joint Investigation Team’s report submitted to the Supreme Court today describing it as trash.
Addressing a news conference in Islamabad this evening, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal said the report is a compilation of allegations hurled by the PTI.
Ahsan Iqbal said the report lacks any substantial evidence against the Prime Minister and his family.
He said our legal team is reviewing the report and will submit its arguments in the apex court. He said the government will face all the onslaughts being perpetrated from the opposition.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Law Barrister Zafarullah said four out of six JIT members were totally ignorant of the legal process of investigation. He said JIT members were biased, which was against the principles of justice. He said the JIT has failed to record the statement of the most important witness in the case. He said JIT members would threaten the people who used to appear before them to record their statements.
Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that the PML-N will expose all the lacunas, shortcomings, and contradictions in the JIT report before the Supreme Court. He said Panama Papers has been converted into a political battle from a legal matter. He, however, said that we have full confidence in the apex court and will demolish JIT’s report point by point before it.
Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said findings of the JIT report are based on speculations and suppositions instead of solid facts.
To a question, Ahsan Iqbal said that discontinuity of democracy and policies have always harmed the country and now at the juncture when Pakistan is taking off economically, conspiracies are being hatched. He said Nawaz Sharif faced all allegations with utmost transparency, but it should also be kept in view that Imran Khan is avoiding his trial.
Responding to a query, Khawaja Muhammad Asif expressed the hope that all the democratic forces of Pakistan will support their viewpoint.
