ISLAMABAD: A commission organized by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has cancelled the licenses of three television channels owned by the Geo TV network (Geo TV, Geo News, Geo Entertainment).
Nevertheless, a final resolve on the annulment of the licenses will be announced following the meeting on May 28, which will also be served by government spokespeople.
The commission, which includes members Syed Ismail Shah, Pervez Rathore and Israr Abbasi, was tasked to review the Ministry of Defence’s application filed against the Geo TV network for leveling allegations against an intelligence agency of Pakistan.
The pause is to remain in effect until May 28, when another academic term of the committee will be bidden to adjudicate on the last decision regarding cancellation of the permit.
The Pemra official stated the recommendation has been transmitted to the Council of Complaints (CoC) and their recommendations are required to be brought back in a week’s time.
Furthermore, he alleged that in one case the recommendations come back; a special commission will be organized to reach a last decision regarding Geo TV’s licenses.
