DJ, actor and infamous James Bond non-candidate Idris Elba is adding another string to his bow: combat sports.
Elba as if didn’t prove to be terrifying enough as the titular detective in the acclaimed series Luther, has his eyes set on a “lifelong ambition” to become an actual professional fighter all covered in a tell-all documentary focusing on his journey from the gym to the ring.
Elba, who did fitness kickboxing in his 20s will be shown learning from the best: former world champions, trainers and coaches will mentor Elba along with his journyey to Cuba, Japan, South Africa and Thailand to master unconventional training methods in an attempt to make him a fair match for the seasoned professional fighter he will combat during the series climax.
The news was broken after Elba posted a photograph of himself to his Instagram account with the caption, “two days before the first fight”. His new physique caused some to think Elba was getting in shape to play Thor: Ragnarok, in which he is cast as Heimdall.
He spoke of his current venture in an interview, “It has been a lifelong ambition of mine to fight professionally. Entering the ring to further test myself as a human being is a challenge I have been looking to take on for quite some time.”
We hope he keeps kicking rear ends in reel and real life.
