It’s about power, not sexuality. It’s an isolating feeling: Priyanka on Weinstein Controversy

The 35 year old Bollywood and Hollywood actress who is currently busy shooting the third season of Quantico finally comes forward with her views on sexual harassment and confirms that you can find a ‘Weinstein’ wherever you turn your head.

“There is not just ‘a Harvey Weinstein’ in Hollywood, there are many. It happens everywhere.”

Priyanka Chopra is a strong symbol of women empowerment, she has shared her views on sexual abuse and harassment more times than one can count. Her passion is driven towards standing up for the rights of women worldwide.

“Women are not just for the fulfillment of sexual desires and a man’s appetite”, she said in a TV interview recently.

When Priyanka came across the news of sexual harassment faced by a large number of fellow actresses. She further expressed her views upon the pompous role of Harvey’s fallout from the cinema.

She said, “It’s not just about sexuality. It’s not about sex. It’s about power. It’s an isolating feeling. The easiest thing to take away from a woman is her work.”

She further discusses about the fact that women are known to have two major strengths and that is to be compassionate and tough simultaneously. She confronts another issue about a women’s choice of clothing and believes that no one has the right to tell a women how to dress.

Priyanka was deeply saddened to hear all the women like Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet , Jennifer Lawrence and Reese Witherspoon affected by Weinstein’s harassment but was joyous at their courage to speak up against the harasser.

In a show she was asked if there is a Weinstein in Bollywood? To which she replied, “I don’t think there’s ‘a’ Weinstein. I don’t even think there’s one Weinstein in Hollywood. There are a lot more men, and not just in India, but everywhere else. Just men trying to take away power (from women).”

The star of Baywatch also revealed that she constantly fears about her failure and that is the thing that keeps her up at night. She also mentioned a solution on how to overcome this fear.

“I don’t repeat my mistakes. And that’s a way of getting over failure,” said Priyanka.

I believe that Priyanka is a woman who doesn’t live by substandard concepts of patriarchy and abides by what she keeps faith in. Women empowerment and justice has always been her message which she delivers clearly whenever asked upon. There is one thing for sure and that is , you can’t keep Priyanka in line but she sure can be a person who can keep such men at bay by her strong beliefs and independent spirit.
