A five-member commission presided by Chief Election Commissioner heard disqualification references for the two PTI leaders.

PTI was represented by their lawyer Hamid Khan. However the Chief Election Commissioner maintained that Imran Khan and Jehangir Tareen should be present during the hearing.

“The ball is in our court now,” the Chief Election Commissioner said during the hearing.

References against the two PTI leaders were filed by the National Assembly Speaker.

The ECP also heard a disqualification reference against Capt. Safdar Mehmood.

The Chief Election Commissioner said that this case was currently being heard in the Supreme Court and the ECP should wait for a decision by the apex court before proceeding with it.

A similar question rose in the ECP during the hearing of a disqualification reference against the Prime Minister.

The Chief Election Commissioner discussed the issue with various parties involved in the case.

The Prime Minister’s lawyer Salman Butt advised that the ECP should wait for the Supreme Court decision. He said that in the past the Supreme Court had also heard cases against Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif. He added that High Courts had stopped the hearing till a decision by the apex court.

Meanwhile Latif Khosa maintained that his client were not party in the Supreme Court case.
