Zardari granted 15-day interim bail in money laundering case

KARACHI: A local banking court granted 15 day-interim bail to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari pertaining to a money laundering case on Rs2 million security bonds on Friday.

Zardari accompanied with Farooq Naik appeared before the banking court today.

The hearing has been adjourned till September 4.

Earlier on Aug. 28, erstwhile president Zardari along his sister Faryal Talpur appeared at the headquarters of Federal Investigation Bureau (FIA) in Islamabad where they were cross-questioned for 35 minutes regarding on going probe.

On August 17, a local banking court had issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Zardari and other absconding suspects in the ongoing probe. However, Later on Aug. 18, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted protective bail to Zardari in money laundering case with an order to appear before the banking court on 3rd September.

The FIA is investigating 32 people in relation to suspicious transactions of Rs35 billion carried out through fake bank accounts including Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur, under which Zardari’s close aide and Pakistan Stock Exchange Chairman Hussain Lawai was also arrested last month.
