On Tuesday, the Taliban has kidnapped a Chinese tourist on a cycling tour of the state, police and Taliban sources said.
The human race, whose name and passport details were supplied by Reuters, was snatched on Monday in Durban, near the western city of Dera Ismail Khan.
Abdullah Bahar, a senior Taliban commander, told Reuters the man was in their hands.
“We kidnapped the Chinese tourist. He is now in our hands,” he said. “We will call for the liberation of our fighters who are in government custody.” Durban police said they were looking for the human race.
It is strange for a Chinese to be targeted in Pakistan. Gunmen in January shot dead six guards protecting a Spanish round-the-world cyclist in Balochistan.
The Pakistani Taliban, who is supporting peace talks with the government, has split over tribal rivalries, control of extortion revenue, and who should succeed leaders killed by U.S. drone strikes.
