Farooq Sattar sees conspiracy to ‘eliminate’ MQM

KARACHI: Farooq Sattar, senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader, Thursday said ongoing targeted operation in Karachi against criminal elements is being used to “eliminate” his party.

Addressing a press conference here, Sattar said a conspiracy is being hatched to sideline MQM from political arena and to replace it with some other political party by using the targeted operation.

He said Rangers arrested a member of the MQM’s Coordination Committee Kamal Malik by raiding his house located in North Nazimabad area last night.

The paramilitary force stayed in Malik’s residence for one and a half hour during the raid, Sattar added.

The MQM leader said that Malik was the fourth Coordination Committee member who has been arrested, adding that no central figure of any other political party was arrested in ongoing Karachi operation.

He said MQM is concerned about Malik’s life and his medical condition as he added the arrested leader underwent an operation of liver transplant two years ago.

Sattar claimed the purpose of arrests is not to control crime in the city but to weaken the MQM.
