Fazl, Dar discusses MQM resignation issue

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar spoke with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and discussed the issue of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) resignations.

According to sources, Ishaq Dar requested Fazlur Rehman to continue contact with MQM leaders and convince them to hold talks with the government on the issue of resignations.

The MQM’s Rabita Committee has decided not to bring the matter of its lawmaker’s resignations to the table with the government and has instead demanded the immediate acceptance of resignations.

The decision was reached at a joint meeting of MQM Rabita Committees in London and Karachi after reviewing the matter in depth.

A communique issued at the conclusion of the meeting, said the government did not value the role of Maulana Fazlur Rehman as mediator. Therefore, the Maulana need not bother any more about making further efforts in this regard, it said.

MQM said in its announcement that the party’s lawmakers be deemed as former MPs in all the three top government forums.

The party also regretted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s not taking out time to visit its leader Rashid Godil who suffered multiple bullet wounds after coming under an armed attack in Karachi a couple of days back.
