Gilani sends Turkish first lady’s necklace to Foreign Office

ISLAMABAD: The necklace of Turkish first lady that has been in former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s possession, has been sent to the Foreign Office on Friday.

According to sources, GIlani`s principal staff officer Aitzaz Niazi took the necklace to Toshakhana (gifts repository) in Islamabad but the authorities refused to deposit it, saying it does not follow their standard operating procedure.

Niazi was advised to submit the necklace to PM Secretariat or the Foreign Office.

It is pertinent to mention here that the necklace was donated in 2010 by the wife of Turkish President (then prime minister) Recep Tayyip Erdogan to help the flood-affected people of Pakistan.

Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar had recently ordered FIA to conduct an inquiry into disapperance of the necklace.
