Imran announces not to contest by-poll on Khanzada’s seat

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday announced his party would not field a candidate for the by-election in the constituency vacated after killing of Punjab Home Minister Shuja Khanzada in Attock.

“Out of respect for shaheed Shuja Khanzada PTI will not put up a candidate for the bye election in his constituency,” Imran wrote on a micro-blogging website. Imran expressed his profound grief over the martyrdom of Khanzada in a suicide attack.

“I strongly condemn the suicide attack on Punjab Home Minister’s Dera and pray for the survivors and those still under the rubble, including the Minister,” Khan said in a statement on social media.

Khan said that he was grieved to learn of Shuja Khanzada’s martyrdom.

“He was one of the founding members of PTI and travelled with me in the early days galvanizing people,” he recalled.

PTI, he said, stands with the nation against all acts of terrorism.
