Imran dubs ECP response to his letter a ‘joke’

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday lashed out at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) over its response to his letter.

“Three weeks after my letter, I have received ECP’s response, which is a joke with the nation,” Khan told a press conference.

“Can a constitutional body be allowed to plunder this country. Is it exempted from criticism,” he questioned?

This shameful ECP’s response shows that all four members of the Election Commission are involved in blatant rigging in the last general elections, he said. “As a citizen of Pakistan, it is my right to seek answers from the Election Commission about complaints of rigging,” he said.

“This response is an insult to my voters and former Chief Justice Nasir ul Mulk, who gave 40-point observations about the incompetence of ECP,” he said. “We will talk to PPP and other political parties, which have raised objections to the present members,” he said.

Khan said that his party would also adopt a legal recourse against the commission before taking to the streets. “We are also mulling over a proposal to file a reference against the members of ECP in Supreme Judicial Council,” he stated.

The PTI chief said that he would hit the streets after exercising all legal options.
