ISLAMABAD: Half a million people displaced by the ongoing military offensive in North Waziristan.

Jamaat-e-Islami Amir and senior Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister Siraj UL Haq today called for the formation of a parliamentary task force to look after half a million people displaced by the ongoing military offensive in North Waziristan.

Addressing a press conference here, Haq termed the steps required by federal government as inadequate.

“A task force comprising parliamentary parties should be worked to oversee issues being looked by the IDPs,” he advised. He asked that the federal government provides Rs50, 000 to each homeless family.

“It would have been safer if the government had convened an APC before launching the military offensive,” he commented.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had not called for anybody into confidence about the failure of dialogue with the Taliban, he noted.

“Hundreds of thousands stand displaced and out of work and their jobs have been destroyed,” he appended.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister also called for the removal of the prohibition on inter-provincial movement of IDPs.
