Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah has come up with a requirement for complete authority to the chief election commissioner (CEC).
In a statement, Shah said currently a role of chief election commissioner was similar of an ECP member. He too indicated the government tenure be fixed for four years, instead of the current five years.
“It is compulsory for the CEC is a judge, which complicates the operation. How one will bring the CEC if he is not a judge,” Shah asked.
He stated once the incumbent government completed its term, the next term of office for subsequent governments be fixed for four years.
By reducing government tenure, he considered, it would bring to an end all the problems.
