Karachi protests against K-Electric over power crisis

KARACHI: Intense heat coupled with prolonged spans of unannounced load shedding round the clock, put the citizens on tenterhooks. The distressed citizens mounted protest and set tires on fire in different areas of Karachi in Saturday’s wee hours.

Government claims of no load shedding during Sehr and Iftar timings proved hollow and the people remained panicked from Karachi to Khyber while fasting on first of Ramadan.

The megacity’s K-Electric claimed a day before the holy month of Ramadan that there will be no load shedding during Sehri, Iftar and Taravih timings; but, the unannounced load shedding enhanced on the very first Sehri of Ramazan.

The distraught people went on protest in different areas of Karachi including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, North Karachi, New Karachi, Malir, Khokhrapar, Landhi, Abul Hassan Isfahani Road and blocked the roads by setting tires on roads.

Meantime, angry women also took to streets and raised slogans against K-Electric.

The span of unannounced load shedding was also increased in Karachi, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Dadu and Mirpur Khas against which the people took to roads and surrounded relative offices voicing slogans against the government.
