Karachi still without electricity following nightlong breakdown

KARACHI: After nightlong power outage due to a major breakdown, the K-Electric could not completely restore electricity supply to different areas of Karachi till 9am Wednesday.

According to a K-Electric statement, a 220KV main transmission line tripped at 9.00 PM, which caused the tripping of the Units of Bin Qasim Power Plant.

The tripping plunged the city into darkness.

Initially the KE claimed that restoration work would take a couple of hours, but later it said the outage prolonged due to National Grid tripping, adding that teams were working to ‘normalise the situation’.

The fault in main transmission line triggered a domino effect as power supply to several cities of Sindh and Balochistan was also disconnected from the national grid station.
