KARACHI: Turn off the lights: Lawmakers, environmentalists mark Earth Hour

NewsOne reported: Lawmakers and environmental experts met at the Sindh Assembly building to commemorate Earth Hour between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm on Saturday. The event was jointly devised by World Wide Fund for Nature – Pakistan (WWF- Pakistan) and the Sindh government

The lights of the provincial assembly building were switched off in the presence of 51 lawmakers from various parties. “It is not just about turning the lights off, but also about changing life styles, consumption patterns and to be more aware,” said the provincial minister for environment and parliamentary affairs, Dr Sikandar Mandhro.

The current year’s Earth Hour theme was ‘using Your Power’ and the Sindh joined 7,000 cities and more than 156 nations across the globe in celebrating this event in several urban centers across the Sindh.

This is the first time in the story of the universe that a regime has slipped by a resolution for Earth Hour,” claimed Rab Nawaz, the regional manager for WWF-Pakistan, NewsOne.
