ISLAMABAD: The High Court Monday ordered the government to name the Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) within 15 days.
Chief Javaid Laghari’s former HEC term had expired on August 26, 2013. On November 12, 2013, the government had selected University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar (UET) Vice Chancellor Imtiaz Hussain Gilani for the post on acting charge. On February 12, 2014 his hold ended.
The secretary told the motor hotel that a summary of new chairman’s appointment was sent to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who declined it and organized a committee under Khawaja Asif for the high-level appointment.
Justice Shaukat Siddiqui in his remarks, stated that it was a slap on the judicial system, as despite government assurances, the chairman HEC hasn’t been appointed and included it would be superior the government itself appoints the chairman HEC within 15 days or else.
