PESHAWAR: 1 more polio cases detected in Khyber

Another polio case was reported in Khyber Agency, taking the total number of poliomyelitis cases in the state to 62.


The latest event was reported in a 27-month-old boy Meir Fayyaz, a resident of Tehsil Bara of Khyber Agency.

Since January to date, an aggregate of 48 instances of polio has been reported in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). Four events are reported from South Waziristan.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Army has sought 60,000 polio vaccines from Ministry of Health in the wake of travel restrictions imposed by World Health Organisation (WHO) against polio spread.

In a letter penned by the army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) to health ministry, it is alleged that 60,000 oral polio vaccines be provided to the army as its personnel are scheduled to go abroad for UN Peace Mission, short courses and those on deputation.
