PM Nawaz to return to quake-hit Pakistan tonight


ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif will return here tonight hours after a deadly earthquake hit Pakistan, killing at least 200 people and injuring over 1000 others.


PM was staying in London after completing his four-day official visit to the United States. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rasheed told media in a news conference that the Prime Minister would be back by Monday night and personally monitor the relief and rescue operation in the quake-hit areas.

The Prime Minister paid a visit to the US at the invitation of US President Barack Obama. During the interaction with the US authorities, the Prime Minister highlighted the local, bilateral, regional and international issues particularly the Kashmir issue and Indian involvement in Pakistan to disrupt country’s peace and stability.

Earlier, while being in London, where he reached from Washington, the Prime Minister directed all federal agencies to declare immediate alert and mobilize all resources to carry out relief and rescue operations.

The premier also directed Chief Minister and Governor KPK and Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan to personally oversee the relief activities.
