Punjab govt announces 3-day mourning over Khanzada’s killing


LAHORE: Punjab government on Sunday announced to observe three-day mourning over a deadly attack that killed home minister Shuja Khanzada and 17 others.


A suicide bomber blew himself up at dera of Shuja Khanzada in Shadi Khan village of Attock, where he was hearing complaints of local people at a meeting.

The powerful blast brought down roof of the building, trapping inside nearly 40 people, including the minister.

Rescue teams and local people thronged to the blast site to retrieve the dead and injured from the building rubble, and after four hours of efforts they recovered the body of Shuja Khanzada.

“Khanzada has embraced martyrdom,” chief rescue official Mohammad Ashfaq and Saeed Illahi, adviser to the province’s chief minister, confirmed Khanzada’s death.

They said body of DSP Attock was also recovered, fearing that nearly 40 people might have been trapped under the debris.
