SC Karachi Registry: Figures don’t match in Branch’s funds case

KARACHI: Supreme Court’s (SC) Karachi Registry on Thursday has rejected reports filed by Additional Inspector General (IG) Finance and others saying that the figures in reports in Investigation Branch funds case do not match.

Justice Amir Hani Muslim held hearing of the case in Karachi registry.

Sindh IG Ghulam Haider Jamali, Chief Secretary and Interior Secretary were present for the hearing among others. As the court initiated the hearing, report filed by Additional IG Finance was rejected. The court also showed dissatisfaction over reports filed by IG Jamali and Home Secretary.

Justice Muslim said that figures of all three reports oppose one another and do not match. Sindh Advocate General kept interrupting the proceedings with his statement however, the judge ordered him to sit back while the court hears first hand information from the officials concerned.

Matiari Police were given a budget worth at least Rs 20.1 million. Sajawal Police’s budget is also more than that of Hyderabad division. The court ordered the Home Secretary to file verified reports along with review of those reports.

Justice Muslim expressed resentment saying that committees are formed when authorities are disinterested to look into a matter and the court does not believe in them. However, Advocate General Abdul Fateh Malik assured the court of positive developments this time. A policy in the matter has been formed and the court would not be given a chance to complain, he added.

The court postponed the case of provision of funds to investigation branch for a month.
