Sindh govt bans pillion riding in province from 7th to 10th Muharram

KARACHI: The Sindh home department on Tuesday imposed a ban on pillion riding in the province from 7th Muharram to 10th Muharram (Wednesday to Saturday), NewsONE reported.

According to a statement, the department said the restriction is imposed in districts, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sanghar, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Khairpur and Mirpurkhas.

Cell phone services will also remain suspended on Muharram 10 in the said districts.

In the wake of rising incidents of sectarian violence in the port city, law enforcement agencies have claimed to undertake special security measures for the month of Muharram.

So far in 2015, at least 86 people have been killed in incidents of violence believed to be motivated by sectarian strife.
