PESHAWAR: Unknown armed men on Wednesday attacked police party killing three and injuring seven others in Armarh area of Peshawar, said police officials.
The police sources said that that they were in the area for search operation against militants and proclaimed offender.
The police said the officers came under attack from unknown gunmen holed up in a house. The injured were taken to the Lady Reading Hospital.
The police further said that a search operation was ongoing in the area to arrest the remaining attackers.
They said the police suffered the casualties during a search operation in which a proclaimed offender was also killed in an exchange of fire.
However, residents of the area disputed the police claim, saying an “innocent” youth was targeted by the police during the search operation.
A number of residents led by a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ishtiaq Armarh held a protest demonstration outside the Armarh Police Station, chanting slogans against the law enforcers.
