QUETTA: On Fridy morning, wave of terrorism once again hit Quetta leaving atleast 20 people killed and 48 others injured in a blast at Quetta’s Hazarganji sabzi mandi, rescue and hospital sources said.
Fourteen bodies were brought to hospital whereas at least 13 others were injured and are being treated, hospital sources informed local news channel.
DIG Quetta Abdul Razaq Cheema earlier confirmed the death toll at eight.
One Frontier Corps (FC) and nine Hazara soldiers, shopkeepers, businessmen, other local residents were among the martyrs, according to DIG Cheema. Four FC soldiers were injured.
DIG Cheema told reporters, “the attack took place in a [green grocer’s] shop. An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was planted in a gunny sack filled with potatoes. Whether it was timed or remote-controlled, our experts will tell. Right now they are investigating.”
“We are giving our attention to the wounded at this time,” he said. The injured have been shifted to hospitals ─ where an emergency has been imposed ─ for treatment. We have arranged transportation back [home] for Hazaras who remained unhurt in the attack,” Cheema further added.
According to police, buildings located nearby were also damaged in the blast.
The injured are being treated in Bolan Medical complex.
On twitter, Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned “the terrorist attack” and sought “an immediate inquiry and increased security for the [targeted] people”.
