Al-Azizia, Flagship Cases: Nawaz summoned by Accountability courts on Monday

ISLAMABAD: After the former PM Nawaz Sharif’s pending corruption cases were shifted from Court number I of the Accountability court to court number II yesterday, the proceedings continued today beginning with an order of physical appearance of the incarcerated PM.

Accountability Court II summoned deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday in two pending corruption references against him and his family.

The order came from Judge Arshad Malik hearing the Al-Azizia and Flagship Investment references on Thursday, today.

Judge Malik also directed the prosecution to present Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head and prosecution’s star witness Wajid Zia for the hearing and probable questioning and guiadance on August 13.

As the hearing went under way, Judge Malik questioned National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Deputy Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi regarding the progress in investigations into the two remaining corruption references.

The NAB prosecutor told the accountability court judge, “After Wajid Zia, only one more witness’s statement is pending, other have been recorded.”

“There are three suspects in both the references. Investigation is ongoing against Nawaz while his sons, Hasan and Hussain, have already been declared absconders in the case,” he further said.

The hearing was then adjourned till Monday.
